PhD level Foreign Scholarships Programme, known as Chief Minister Merit Scholarships (CMMS)

The Government of Punjab has initiated the Ph.D. Foreign Scholarship Programme. According to the eligibility criteria established for this program, both male and female applicants who meet the selection criteria are chosen to receive a Ph.D. scholarship to pursue their degree from one of the top 50 ranked universities worldwide. The scholarship program primarily targets outstanding students from Punjab. However, a special quota has also been designated for applicants from other provinces of Pakistan.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must have a valid PhD admission offer from one of the top 50 universities in their preferred subject areas, as per the QS ranking (details available at www.peef.org.pk/cmms).
  • Additionally, they should have maintained a minimum of 60% marks throughout their academic career.
  • The combined monthly family income, including self, spouse, and parents, must not exceed PKR 200,000.
  • Applicants should be under the age of 35 at the time of application submission and must not have previously received any foreign scholarships.
  • It is mandatory to accept the scholarship in the year it is offered, and deferral to the following year will not be permitted.
  • Both male and female Pakistani nationals are eligible to apply.

NOTE: Please note that current permanent or regular faculty members of public sector teaching or educational institutions in Pakistan are ineligible to apply for the PhD Foreign Scholarship.

Online Apply:

  • Secure admission in current Top 50 QS Ranked (subject-wise) Universities of the world in the preferred subject areas as mentioned above.
  • Download Scholarship application form from https://www.peef.org.pk/cmms
  • Send the duly filled application form to the PEEF office within the due date.
  • The last date for Online Apply is 26 April 2024.

Scholarship Coverage:

PhD Scholarships granted through CMMS are comprehensive and cover all associated expenses, including:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Accommodation and meals (according to approved rates)
  • Health insurance
  • Airfare

Scholarships are allocated based on discipline as follows:

  • 80% of scholarships are earmarked for Science disciplines.
  • 20% of scholarships are designated for Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts.

The geographical distribution of scholarships is as follows:

  • The majority of scholarships are designated for students from Punjab.
  • 10% of scholarships are allocated to students from other provinces of Pakistan.

Note:

• Selected candidates cannot postpone the scholarship offer to the following year.

• Faculty members currently employed in permanent or regular positions at public sector teaching or educational institutions in Pakistan are not eligible to apply for the Chief Minister Merit Scholarship (CMMS) Program.

• Preference will be given to students with Punjab domicile, although PEEF has also reserved a special quota for other provinces, including AJK, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

• It is the responsibility of the applicant to secure admission to the university and apply for a visa.

• The decision of the CMMS Selection Committee is final.

• PEEF reserves the right to reject any application or cancel the entire selection process without providing a reason.
